I’m new to Maya and our teacher in class is not the most amazing teacher. I’m an animator in my second year. I have fun building stuff in Maya even if I only started 2 moth ago. I like your character modeling tutorial but could you make it more complex and maybe talk more about the tools you use and give some other tips?

    thx.

Thank you for the lesson, it very useful, I hope you will make vedio leesons in the future

I guess your character turned out pretty good, but have you never heard that you should never have triangles in your mesh? :o

  • Antony

That’s only really true if your mesh is a base to be taken into ZBrush. Even then, ZBrush can handle triangles. For a game model though, triangles are inevitable if it’s to be properly optimized and have good topology.

Great tutorial. One of the better ones I’ve found.

However, I can’t really tell how you connected the legs to the body. It would help if you had some more back views, and maybe larger pictures in general.

OMG dude! This tutorial is great and your cartoonish female model are simply AWESOME!!!!
It would be nice to have some Hair tutorial, the hair youe made looks Amazing! And as far I as I can tell is made with polys and with color an transparency maps right?
Simply awesome dude! Keep on it!!!

    Hi Antony

As a newbie to 3d, I found this hugely helpful and I really had fun and managed to model the arms, legs and torso as described, until I had to join those parts, baahhhh, I feel so incompetent and stupid, what to do now? Should I jump off a cliff and die a quick sudden death?

  • Dillon

Very nice tutorial. I am very confused about how you “joined” the leg and arm to the torso, however. I tried deleting facing and “adding” vertices but I still can’t get it to come out right. It is very frustrating.

Maybe a little more detail there.

    Thanks.

This tutorial was very inspiring to me. I’ve just begun a college Maya class and I’m excited to learn the techniques as fast as I can. I have a fine art background as well as mechanics, I’m hoping to begin a career in this. I’ll be looking forward to more of your tutorials.

    Thanks.

  • Nas

Very useful and inspiring. But, it may be a little bit confusing for newbies.
